A week of work

Jasmine was so excited to get baptized!! Woo-hoo!
Jasmine was so excited to get baptized!! Woo-hoo!

This week was awesome!!!!! So awesome! My comp started out super sad, down… and I honestly was not being the best help… I just tried pushing him harder to try to help him forget and focus on the work… but it didn’t help.

Then Wednesday we went to the Temple and it was the sickest experience ever…. I participated as a witness of a sealing for a family that had passed away! WHAT????????? It was the gnarliest thing ever. I was just bewildered… yet it was quite simple… so simple… yet it made me think what really is our goal…. and our Bishop yesterday gave a great talk that made me think a lot about what I want out of life…. what I want out of my mission. He said we have such an incalculable potential, yet we, ourselves, limit our potential. Because we think we cannot do it, or we are lazy, do not complete our duties in the church or as sons, as missionaries. What is our goal…. Eternal Life. So what are we doing to reach that? Why do we go to church? Why am I on a mission? To help others yes… but to prepare myself, prepare others, learn for my future family, so I can guide them and myself to eternal life. That is why it is so important to learn the gospel. And not just learn it, Apply it! Live it! I love learning!

My companion then had an interview with President, and it was sweet. He helped my comp a lot. And me as well. He was able to push aside missing his family and now we are working a lot better! It was amazing to see the difference because we worked a lot better and effective and now we always joke a ton!!!!!

Me and my comp! He's the best!!
Me and my comp! He’s the best!!

He is a little clown and now loves to annoy me. hahahaha. He reminds me a lot of Brevon! Super humble, super tender, and such a lovey guy! You are awesome Brevon! I am training you, but you are from Bolivia! Haha!

So then on Saturday we had all the new missioanries from the CCM come and proselite in OUR area so we have a ton of references to contact and it is such a blessing! My comp and I proselited with 2 gringos. One from Oklahoma and the other from Spanish Fork in Utah. His name is Elder Smartt and the other from Oklahoma was named Elder Huskinson. hahahaha. I thought he was from Nebraska because he likes to husk them corn. hahahaha. But his Dad grew up in Shelley.

We happened to have a lesson so we taught an investigator with them and then the Sisters showed up so we had a huge lesson and it was with Jassmin’s Mom, and the two white boys shared their simple testimonies and it was so POWERFUL! It was hard to understand…. but amazing. Showed me how far I have come. Because they spoke better than I did when I first got to Peru… and afterwards the Sister missionaries were like “Wow you speak really good”. Hard work pays off… prayer… fasting… practicing, and even more the pure power of God… hahaha. And I just happened to see Jordyn Eckman and she is going to Lima Central and so I talked to her for a little bit. I will be honest… was so weird to see someone I knew before the mission. WAYYYY weird…. and then at the end the second counselor asks me to give the prayer in front of everyone… but it was way sweet!

And then we recieved a reference from a teacher in the CCM and we contacted it that day and it was a less active member with his wife who wants to be baptized! And within ten minutes my companion committed her to be baptized!!!!! I told him earlier if the spirit prompts you… do it, and he did it! Made me so proud!!!! He is just the funniest little guy ever. I love him!

Well then we committed another girl to be baptized and she came to church as did the wife that I spoke of above. She is named Liz and her husband John and they need to get married so we put goals and we are going to work super hard! And we spoke with Arturo and he wasn’t able to come yesterday to church but we had a sick lesson and he is too stoked to be baptized!!!!

Just wanted to share something I studied this morning… a talk that is called “If you will be responsible”… and it is about completing our duty as Priesthood holders, as members, as someone who has any type of calling. I invite you all to read Mark 2 verses 3 through 5 if you read it you will see that Christ forgives a mans sins… but how if in this time he had not brought to pass the atonement yet… and we can see by his example that he came to COMPLETE his calling. Not to do His will but the one who sent him. When we make a covenant… it is forever and we must complete it if we want to recieve the ultimate gift that God can give us. But that we might complete with love and a true desire and love of God because Christ does not care about numbers… high goals for a ward, for a stake… but where our heart really is… like it talks about the Pharisees in Matthew 23 verse 27… outside are white like a casket but on the inside full of dead bones. This is my wish for all of you and for me and for my district. I hope they will be able to put it into practice because they are not getting along too well.

Well, thank you all for all that you have done and your prayers! A big shout out to the old guy named Ryan Carter whose birthday is Sunday! Happy birthday Dad! I love you! So much! Thank you for your example!

Love,

Elder Carter

Stressed, but blessed!!

So this week was very interesting… Elder Argüello was sent to Manchay, right above Musa hahahah, and I am training a brand new missionary! His name is Elder Carvajal and he is from Bolivia, Santa Cruz, and he is so awesome!!!!! I love him! So humble and willing to do what is necessary to be a better missionary. And I am still District Leader. I am very stressed to be honest… but I love it.

So this week we had 2 BAPTISMS! Woohoo!!!! And I would love to send you all pictures but my computer doesn’t want to connect with my camera… I don’t know what is wrong… but anyways! They both got baptized!!!! It was way sweet! Wow! Such an amazing experience! So Katty had to wait until she turned 18 so that was way sweet to see her get to that age and make the decision for herself. With Jassmin, man did we fight hard. We got her parents signatures, waited for her dad to come home to sign her permission slip and she also was finally baptized. I had my comp baptize Katty and I baptized Jassmin! It was way sweet! All of her family came and only her and her Aunt are members so they all were way happy! Her parents like thanked me and we are teaching the both of them! It is way sweet and a family super prepared. What a great experience… after my comp changed to baptize Katty, he came out and just hugged me and was so happy! He was like you are the best Dad ever. Thank you so much. (in the mission we call the missionaries we train sons and the trainers Dads) so he said that to me and that day I wore a tie from my Dad… my real Dad. It reminded me of the love and sacrifices that he always made for me! I felt the absolute peace and love from my Dad even though we are very distant right now. Then it made me think of the love Heavenly Father has for each one of us and I was so amazed!

After Jassmin was baptized… I asked her how she felt.. she responds with GENIAL! Which is like, too sick or awesome, or amazing and then she started splashing water on me because she was so happy. I had to calm her down and remind her we were in the baptismal font still! hahahahahahaha.

So Wednesday we had a rough day… not many people wanted to listen to us so we went back to the house to use the bathroom and grab jackets and I felt prompted to ask my comp how he was doing.. and he was like fine… I was like no what’s wrong… he was like “nothing I am just quiet”… and I was like you can’t fool me, what’s wrong? and he broke down. He of course misses his family, Lima is super depressing… hahaha and he heard footsteps in the night… oh yeah the house we live in is haunted… like seriously. But I always sleep like a baby!

So today we did two way sweet practices in our companionship study for our investigators and wow our companionship grew so much today! I just complimented him like crazy and he just had the hugest smile on his face! It is hard to train but I love it! So awesome!

Well a scripture for all of ya…. John 7 verse 17! I do what I do because I love my Savior and my Father in Heaven. This is our invitation to everyone. To ask God! We don’t convince people, we invite.

I know the church is true, know my Savior lives and loves me, and that He is with us always, we just have to know how to find ourselves in his presence.

Hope you all have una buenasa semanita. chauuuu! (a good week. Bye!)

Wow, what a week!

Wow, again a crazy week…. So yesterday some crazy stuff went down…. this crazy drunk tried to steal my watch! So he was following my companion until he saw me… a gringo… and ya I was done for… he came over to me and I started just walking away and he grabbed my shirt trying to hold me back so I stopped because I thought he had a knife but then I realized he had nothing. He pointed to my watch and grumbled and then I showed him my Book of Mormon as a joke and he was like no! I was like oh sorry!!! Then he pointed to my watch again and I was like okay… and then we walked away and he couldn’t keep up with us! It was a nutty experience! It was literally the first time I was assaulted but he was so drunk he couldn’t do anything! hahahaha. I love Perú.

The Elders!!
The Elders!!

So this upcoming Saturday is going to be awesome! We have two baptisms and I am sure I will be able to be here! I don’t think the Lord would change me yet… but who knows. This week will be sweet! I am super excited! Both of them have strong testimonies, are coming to church, waking up people of their family to come! It is way sweet!!! I love seeing people come to Christ!

Well changes are this week so we will see what happens! I will do what the Lord needs of me! I am so thankful for this last change, I have learned so much!!!

So this week I learned the importance of working no matter what, and how hard work brings blessings. My companion got super sick as did I on Tuesday and it was rough… we slept all morning and in the afternoon I felt like crap… but we went out to proselite, we got a solid 3 lessons in and we hit 11 contacts! It was crazy to see how much effort we made and the great feeling we had at the end of this week! Because we put another person with a baptismal date!!!!!!! He is a champ! And is so awesome!!!!! He wants to change his life, he wants to be an example and we used the story of Cornelius how when he heard the words of Peter how he was immedaitely baptized! We then asked him, what is holding you back? And he said just myself. We found his need!!!!!!!!! I love the gospel, I love the spirit, I love my Father in Heavan so much! Then he looked at me… and said.. man you have been studying for me, huh! hahahahha. I just laughed and said no the spirit tells me… the spirit brings to my mind what I should tell you but yes we also study! hahaha. It was way sweet!

So this week I studied a lot about the Atonement and the great function it has in our lives… I love John 5 verse 26 and 30 and 31. Wow how powerful was Christ…. and even more importantly when Christ was suffering in Gethsemane how he didn’t want to do it… He left and came back because it was so hard but in that moment he learned obedience and humbleness… wow. When we feel sick, when we feel bad, alone, are rejected, betrayed, we are standing shoulder to shoulder with the greatest life this world has ever known. What a blessing we have. This is what helps me to keep going, every time someone says I am busy, I am Catholic, or just plainly shuts the door in my face, I experience what Christ did, that is one of our purposes right… follow His example, gain experience. But how quickly are we to turn on God, when these experiences are necessary for our SALVATION. This life is supposed to be hard, not easy, we HAVE to experience pain, betrayal, hurt, doubts, anguish, to feel the wonderful peace and love that God through his Son and spirit bring us. I love this gospel so much, I love how close I have grown to my Father in Heaven. I hope we all can continue on this path that leads to what Christ came to give us, Eternal Life.

A Roller Coaster Week Here in Hauycan!

Happy 4th of July from the Chaclacayo Zone!!
Happy 4th of July from the Chaclacayo Zone!!

So this week was crazy. We found some of the most prepared people that I have ever met for the gospel… but only them. On Thursday and Saturday it was Peru vs. Paraguay and Argentina and Chile in Soccer. Both days we taught one lesson. It was rough no one was home… we couldn’t even contact people because no one came to the door! Man it was so freaking hard trying to pull these Peruvians away from the Tele!

But wow, We were contacting Monday, later at night, and I was like one more house, and we contacted that house and it wasn’t someone who was super interested but invited us back another day. So then we started to leave and I saw a guy sitting on his moto taxi and I was like hey let’s contact him. We contacted him and it ended up that he let us in, we met his wife, they have plans to be married, and he wants to change his life to be a better Dad and have something eternal. That is what made me so happy! They were so prepared for us and we have a lesson with them tomorrow!!!!! So sick! He started crying, he felt the spirit so powerful in the prayer! Wow! They are named Daniel and Katty! They are so sweet! And then he gave us a ride home in his moto! So God helped us in more ways than one!

We also met Ephraim, who also wants to help his family be better and he wants to change and wants to be more loving and have more patience and so I asked him then will you be baptized and he was like what do I have to do be baptized? We explained it to him and he was like ya okay sounds good! Man, the Lord blessed us with experiences where I just walked out of the house absolutely blown away at what I had said, at what the investigator had said, and more than that, my first Son in the mission had said! He is a great missionary! This change has flown by! One week left!

Yesterday I felt super sad…. our numbers were not good AT ALL…AND I WAS READING IN 2 NEPHI CHAPTER 26 VERSE 8! And it was an answer to my prayer. It just told me to keep going even though it is hard! The Lord speaks to us through his Prophets, through his scriptures! I absolutely love the revelation I recieve to help myself and my district as well! I am so very thankful to my Father in Heaven for the many blessings I recieve!

I had my first baptismal interview this weeek and the first two went very well… the last one was a little different… But it all worked out. It made me think about what this world is coming to… with Gay Marriage and I love what the church says… THIS DOES NOT CHANGE WHAT GOD THINKS! It doesn’t. As explained in Romans… it is an evil sin that God despises. It’s a challenge for some… but we must overcome that challenge. I was reading today in the talk about latter day saints that keep trying! Wow I loved it! We can live the gospel perfectly! I am a saint! A sinner that keeps trying! hahahaha! I thank you all for everyhting! I hope our prayers can be with President Packers Family.

I invite you all to read D and C setion 6 verses 20 to 24. Wow. I love how much my testimony has grown! I am firm. I know without a doubt in my mind this church is true! I love my Savior, I love the Book of Mormon and the fact we have a living prophet who talks to the Lord. I testify of the Savior. He lives, he is our Savior and Redeemer, only through him may we be saved. Thank you all for your prayers, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
