We must be humble

I LOVE MY MISSION!!!!!

Doing some spring cleaning!!
Doing some spring cleaning!!

Wow, I love how the Lord teaches me something every week! Wow, so we had two contacts that really made me reanalize how I treat people. So a young man or woman… not sure which… contacted us… he asked about our knowledge of the Bible and I said well I don’t know everythig but I try to study everyday. So he began to explain that he wants to know the truth, he wants to find the truth and I was too stoked! This kid is awesome! And I just felt this feeling that I wanted to help him but then the contact went bad… he began to express things about God and Jesus that supposedly he has felt in his soul. That God doesn’t exist and Jesus was a demon and that all of us are pure and we don’t need religion and that the whole world is just full of corrupt men… and honestly hearing what he said about our Savior made me feel horrible and I responded heatedly, very heatedly and informed him that he was completely wrong and that he needs to apply the simple doctrine of Christ in his life more than worry about revelations and stuff that he can’t understand . He was like no and said that my companion doubted his testimony which made me feel bad that he would say that, and I was like you don’t have a doctrinal problem.. you have a social problem and then my wonderful companion knowing me that I am very stubborn, cut the conversation and we left…. but I reflected upon this wonderful 30 minutes… how does this boy feel who is absolutely confused… what impact did I leave… I felt really bad….

Again… we found another man who was sitting on the side of the street and I felt like we should talk to him and we passed by and I was like ya no… then I felt it again and we went back… I was frustrated that I didn’t listen, and we began to contact him and I asked if we could meet with him and he was like ya, you can sit on the ground and I was like you have chairs and he got offended and then I sat down… and we began to talk… his mother died, his Dad does not care about him and he has no job, he literally does nothing all day and sees no point to this life… we explained the plan of salvation and it ended super well with him wanting to listen to us… I tell you all this because sometimes we are so focused on ourselves that we forget others. This was a very rough lesson to learn… it is hard to tell you all but I now have learned a little more about how much love our Heavenly Father really has for us.

We had two of the three investiagtors come to church yesterday so they are progressing and doing really well! We will have to work super hard to help them be ready to be baptized! I am very pleased with my district because they will have three baptisms this very next week also! We are working hard to find those of Christ here in Hauycan but also learning lessons that will serve us for the rest of our lives!

Multi-zone meeting!
Multi-zone meeting!

We had a wonderful multi-zone meeting where I learned how we can better do practices for our investigators to help our companionship and our district be better prepapred. It has also helped my companion a lot! Build his confidence! He is a champ! I love him! We are completely different, I love sports he doesn’t… but we are putting that aside to be able to do the Lords work! I have learned so much from him! He started explaining the restoration in the same way I do and it made me so happy to see that! Well, I thank you for all the prayers!

Coolest zone ever!

Elder Carter

Literally the weirdest week ever, but by far one of my favorites!

So…. Do I have stories for you guys!

We had the Temple dedication, the Trujillo Temple, that was SOOOOO spiritual!!!!! Elder Uceda, the area 70 here gave a sick talk and I would like to share it with you all!

President Uceda, The area president gave a list of 5 things that all members of the church HAVE TO COMPLETE.
#1: Have a picture of the temple in a visible part of your home.
#2: Buy your temple clothes NOW, He said that there is no member too poor to buy their temple clothes NOW.
#3: Fill out the little booklet titled “My Family”
#4: Have a current temple recommend at ALL TIMES even if your circumtances do not permit you to go as regularly as you would like.
#5: GO TO THE TEMPLE!!!!!! Go as often as this life allows you to get away. Make it a goal and do it!!!

Wow it was awesome, and then President Uchtdorf gave a talk about walking before God and following His way and then Elder Bednar was there too! Then we sang Spirit of God and it reminded me of Grandpa Davis’ funeral. Wow I felt the spirit so strong and I came out just bewildered, and amazed.

A sweet Baptism!!
A sweet Baptism!!

Milusca was baptized and I baptized her! She wasn’t going to do it because her and her Dad got into a disagreement, but she has such a strong testimony that she did it! The water was freezing and she didn’t want to get in but I made her… hahaha. And then after she was like I don’t feel cold… I feel warm! Way sweet experience!!!!

Awesome!
Awesome!

And funny story… so yesterday we visited a family.. that are listening to us… family Saire. They are having some family problems… and so we went into the house, the husband recieved us with jubilee and we sat down and all these problems started coming out. I stopped and asked if we can say a prayer, and then we talked about how we should treat our family members. We set goals as a family to do an act of service every day and when we don’t like something about someone we say one bad thing and 3 things we like. My comp shared a cool experince from his family! We were guided by the spirit to be able to help them even though we have never had a family… I thank my parents who always set such a great example!

Oh and we found a new investiagtor who has a baptismal date and is basically a chosen one! She has read part of the Book of Mormon and has prayed and felt something inexplainable! Wow!!!!! What a freaking week!

And today was way sweet! I was guided to find a story to share with my district to help them find more investigators and use members to help them! It was in the Bible and just opened to the page!!!

Even though all this happened… Doctrine & Covenants 112 verses 5 through 6 and 8 and 13 helped me to keep going! I invite you all to read it! One of my favorite scriptures!!!!!

Well, shout out to Peetison for getting the Priesthood! Keep being strong Grandpa Carter! Love you all! Tell Bracken Hi! hahaha Thanks for your support!

Wow… New Responsibilties, New Challenges

Hauycan city, Peru
Hauycan city, Peru

So first I would just like to start out with 2 sick contacts that just made my week. So first we tried to visit this lady but her husband answered, pretty sure he lied to us that she wasn’t home and I could tell he was from another religion that did not particularly enjoy us… so I contacted him! hahaha. He wanted to argue with me but I remembered a district meeting where we were taught about charity. So I simply said, “I respect your beliefs and we have a wonderful message that will bless your life. We’d love to share it with you at another time”.

Next we contacted a woman who wanted to discuss the differences of her religion and mine, and I’ll be honest I got a little into this one. We went back and forth for a bit, and eventually she told me that we need to find other people who don’t have the word of God and tell them to go to the Jungle in Peru. I asked her why…. She said because Jesus is going to come to the jungle and only the jungle, but he is going to arrive in his car. His nice big car… then I asked her where it says this and she said Christ has spoken… “where” was my question she responded confidently that Jesus Christ is in Cieneguilla in Lima. (I don’t know if you all remember Cieneguilla but it was close to my last area) I just couldn’t handle this lady… but our Heavanly Father also loves her… so I kind of burned myself and learned I need to have more love.

Anyways, I did a division with an Elder in my district… He is from Utah, he is a good guy… but he is always sad. I always try to say hi to him and ask how his day is but he is just not happy. So I was the question master and guided by the spirit and found out he has it pretty rough. So I am trying to help him but he doesn’t like help… so that has been tough.

The Elders of Huaycan!!
The Elders of Huaycan!!

NO ONE IN OUR HOUSE GETS UP ON TIME. I feel like a dad sometimes, but I wake them all up, one Elder was like give me a minute and I was yeah I will when you get up. He got up. I have gained some serious confidence. I just know all that I do is because I love the Lord. So I had some sweet lessons where I felt the spirit guide me so much. I felt guided in my last district meeting and was able to help another companionship commit someone to a baptismal date and get another investigator to come to church! That was awesome.

Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY PEYTON! I am so proud of you man! That you are getting the priesthood and growing up like a champ! Keep being my little buddy! Love ya man!

Grandma and Grandpa Carter, you guys are in my prayers!

Oh, we have a baptism this Saturday too! Love you all!

New week, new area, new challenges

Well this week was probably the craziest week of my whole mission. So we recieved transfers on Monday and I was told I was going to Huaycan and finishing training a new missionary. So that was sweet! I was excited, a little nervous but super excited. Well after P day the zone leaders were looking over the transfers again and they informed me that I was also a district leader. So that night I did not sleep well. I was super nervous, just felt a little bit like I wasn’t ready for this challenge and what not but I trusted in the Lord. Well that was not it. That first night in my new area I had to give numbers and I had never done that before but we managed and then found out my comp had migrations so he went to that but I had to get up at 5:30 to go to another area to stay with another Elder whose comp also had migrations. So then we got back to our area at like 4:30 and again didn’t have much time to work. Then Wednesday my comp had his half way training and so we went to La Molina and again didn’t have too much time to work and that was on Thursday, and I also had to get up early. Then Friday was trainging for the new leaders and I again woke up early and then Saturday I woke up early to study for my class I had to give in our district meeting. The Lord absolutely and comletely blessed me this week with strength but I will be honest in Elders Quorum I was feeling the heat of the sleep. hahahaha.

Well our new area is like, not super poor, but people live in shacks and it’s not rich at all. It is a sweet area but there are a bunch of gay people and they especially like the gringos. So everytime we pass they whistle at me and in their gay voice say hola Elderes. hahahaha.

My new comp, Elder Arguello and the coolest Pension ever!!
My new comp, Elder Arguello and the coolest Pension ever!!

Our pension is freaking crazy! She is the best and feeds us so much! I am going to get so freaking fat!!!! ahhh! I hate it but the food is so good. We had fish and I just put it down! So my new companion is from Ecuador and has been a member his whole life. Hates sports and is just different than I but I love him and we are going to work hard. I will be honest we have been lost and it’s frustratig because I want to help him but I don’t know. I do not know the area at all. So I study the map trying to learn and help him out. But we are working hard and going to get work done! I am super excited to be with him!

So this week we challenged a teenage girl to baptism and I felt the spirit so strong!!!!!!! She told us how she wants to change her life and relationship with her parents, well I used that to invite her to be baptized and I was so direct with her!!!! I was like if you want that to change, are you going to be baptized and she, without hesitating, said yes. But then she didn’t come to church! So that was a little rough! hahah. But we have another girl that is 20 years old, and she is progressing super well and even better now because Saturday we were fasting for her and she went to a club with her boyfriend but said she looked at it totally different. She felt so bad being there and her boy friend invited her to drink and she was like no I don’t drink and that day we had taught her the word of wisdom. They began to dance but she said she remembered that we were praying for her and fasting for her and so she asked her boyfriend to leave and he was like no and she was like fine I am going and so he came with her and they left and she went home and stayed with our pension. I was so happy! Because I called her to remind her of church and told her these things that we were fasting and praying and the love of someone can change their heart but more importantly the gospel is what makes it stick.

I love my mission. I love that I have been given a new challenge! I learned so much in my training and just wanted to share a little thought with you guys. In Alma 26 verse 27 it talks about how we must be patient and can never give up. More importantly we need to be patient with ourselves! That is something I have learned because I am not a perfect leader nor trainer but the Lord has chosen me. I know this church is true. I know without a doubt that the Book of Mormon can be applied in every aspect of our lives. I hope we all can find peace that the Book of Mormon offers and share it with someone. Thanks for your prayers. I love you all. I am praying deeply for my Grandfather, Scott Carter , that he may be able to keep being strong because he is one of the strongest people I know and super spiritual.

Thank you to all of you. Have a buenasa semana!

Satisfaction after a rough transfer…

So, he was baptized.

So sweet! What a great young man!
So sweet! What a great young man!

My companion baptized him and it was nice of God to gift us with a baptism. I was able to give the talk about the Holy Ghost and it was a super good baptism. He will be a good young man to hold the priesthood and strengthen the ward. He just needs help from his Mom. All depends upon her.

So we had a sweet activity where we watched getting “Meet the Mormons” and man it was good to see it a second time, but hardly anyone came.

Here in Peru they have a thing called Hora Peruano, or Peruvian hour, and it’s their lazy excuse to show up an hour late for everything. So we planned the baptism for 5 but said 4:30 to everyone and they still showed up at 5:30.

Newest member of our ward! Being so blessed!!
Newest member of our ward! Being so blessed!!

But finally Carolina Jacome came to church and was there for the 3 hours! It was way sweet!!!!!! So happy she could come! And Marco Vasques came with a white shirt, tie and suit. He will be an awesome convert if he already is understanding and acting the way he acts! Super duper sweet!

So my comp got super sick this week and I felt bad for him. What I had was nothing compared to what he had. I am ready for a change from him. My patience has been tried and tried and tried some more. But I learned a lot from him. So I am thankful for that!

So this week we contacted a lady that didn’t believe in God or anything and I just bore her my testimony that I know that He is there and I love him and he loves me. It was way sweet!

Well my scripture that I absolutely loved was Alma 29 verses 9 and 10. These scriptures are way sweet!

I know this church is true. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me, and I know that I am where I am for a reason. Yesterday we had a lesson at 6 but I felt a prompting to visit a recent convert that didn’t make it to church and it turned out she was super stressed and we gave her a blessing of comfort and it was way cool. The spirit is the teacher. I am just someone for it to work through.

Love this work and love all of you!
